#WASvsLAC Injury Report: Morgan Moses Questionable

Seeking a third victory on the West Coast this season, the Washington Redskins will head into Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with tight end Jordan Reed (hamstring), wide receiver Maurice Harris(concussion) and safety Montae Nicholson (concussion) ruled out for the contest.

 Tackles Morgan Moses (ankle) and Trent Williams (knee), center Chase Roullier (hand), defensive lineman Terrell McClain (toe) and linebackers Zach Brown(hamstring/Achilles) and Martrell Spaight (ankle) are questionable for the game.

This will mark the sixth consecutive game that Reed has missed as the Pro Bowl tight end continues to rehab a hamstring injury that removed him from Washington’s Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Reed hasn’t practiced for a month now, although he continues to work with the team’s training staff in hopes of returning healthy again soon.

“Jordan’s doing everything he can to get well,” said Redskins head coach Jay Gruden. “I just hate that people sometimes label him as injury-prone. It’s just unlucky. You know, he had a bad toe coming into camp, and then I think with that bad toe, he’s tried to just put too much weight on the other leg, and I think that’s affected his hamstring. Big thing is to get him back to healthy – whether it’s this week, next week, or the week after, or in the offseason.”

Nicholson, meanwhile, will miss his third straight game as the Redskins will once again look to Deshazor Everettand DeAngelo Hall to fill in at the strong safety position.

As for the offensive line, the team could return Roullier to the lineup as the rookie has missed Washington’s last two games with a fractured hand. His availability will be dependent on how much flexibility and pain tolerance he has in his snapping hand.

During the week of practices, Roullier’s workload was limited as the team got him some reps at guard for pass protection drills.

Williams, of course, has played through a knee injury over the last two months while Moses was carted off the field during Washington’s Week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys, although he returned to practice this week in a limited capacity.

If Moses is able to start this weekend, it will extend his consecutive starts streak to 45 games.

“I’ve been blown away, pleasantly surprised, by just the mindset and the attitude of my teammates and I can say that and then who knows, we have got to put a good product on the field on Sunday, but guys want to play,” said quarterback Kirk Cousins. “Guys are ready to go. Morgan is positive and is going to work through it and he’s just got a smile on his face and is wanting to continue to play. Trent, much the same way. I think that that… I’ve talked about how I like the locker room. I like the culture. I like the resiliency. There is a little bit there. You can see it in the way guys are responding from what we have been through and the way they want to continue to go out there and fight.”

Brown is in a similar situation to both Williams and Moses in that he’s playing through injuries but continues to lead the NFL in tackles with 117. While there’s some fear of doing further damage to his Achilles by playing, Brown isn’t someone who wants to be on the sidelines once the whistle is blown.

“It’s always a concern, but if it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen, there’s nothing really you can do about it,” Brown said. “You can be walking up the stairs and it can happen. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen, there’s nothing I can really do about it. All I can do is keep doing treatment on it and getting it worked on.”

McClain is among six players questionable with a toe injury that has sidelined him the last two games. 

In his first season with the Redskins, McClain has recorded 19 tackles with two sacks.
